Shayda's Turkish Cuisine

If you ever find yourself wandering through Folkestone and craving authentic Turkish flavours, Shayda's Turkish Cuisine on Bouverie Road West is a gem that you shouldn’t miss. Tucked away at number 18, this cozy spot isn’t just about food-it’s about warmth, flavour, and that unmistakable Mediterranean hospitality that makes you feel instantly welcome.

As soon as you step through the wheelchair-accessible entrance, you’ll be greeted by the comforting aroma of charcoal-grilled meats and simmering spices. Whether you're dining solo or coming with family or friends, the relaxed vibe and friendly staff make it a great choice for both lunch and dinner. There’s also outdoor seating, perfect for sunny days and laid-back evening meals.

Let’s talk food-because that’s where Shayda’s really shines. One of the standout features here is their Mixed Grill Platter, a generous medley of lamb shish, chicken shish, lamb ribs, and more, all grilled to smoky perfection. It’s a dream come true for meat lovers. If you're after something a little more traditional, the Sarma Beytei Lamb is a flavour-packed dish that delivers comfort and depth in every bite.

Vegetarians aren’t left out either. Dishes like the Falafel and Mixed Meze provide a refreshing balance to the richer plates, with creamy hummus, smoky aubergine dips, and crunchy vine leaves stealing the show. And then there’s Shayda’s Special-a house favourite that combines seasoned meats, roasted vegetables, and secret sauces that’ll have you planning your next visit before the last bite.

Pair your meal with a glass of Turkish wine or a cold beer-they’ve got a thoughtful selection of alcoholic beverages, from spirits to wines, all curated to complement the spices and grilled flavours on the menu. Not in the mood for alcohol? Their Turkish tea and coffee options are just as satisfying. There’s something quite charming about sipping rich, foamy coffee while nibbling on a complimentary piece of baklava.

And speaking of sweets-desserts here are a whole event. From flaky Baklawa to beautifully presented Turkish-style sweets, everything is homemade and packed with flavour. It’s no surprise that Shayda’s is known not only for its mains but also for its great desserts and coffee.

One of the most appreciated things about this place is the sense of generosity. You’ll often find the staff offering complimentary baklava or asking if you’d like a refill of tea without hesitation. It’s this kind of thoughtful service that turns first-time guests into regulars.

What also stands out is how well Shayda’s caters to different dining needs. Looking for halal food? They’ve got you covered. Want a healthy option or just a quick bite? There’s something on the menu for that too. It’s this versatility that sets the restaurant apart in the local dining scene.

Although they don’t offer delivery, you can always opt for takeaway, which is just as satisfying and carefully packaged. But honestly, the dine-in experience is where the magic truly happens. The cosy interior, the gentle buzz of conversation, the aroma of grilled lamb in the air-it’s what makes a visit to Shayda’s feel like a mini escape to Istanbul without leaving the UK.

If you’re a solo diner, you’ll feel just as comfortable here as a large group would. And thanks to the wheelchair-accessible seating, Shayda’s ensures that everyone can enjoy their culinary offerings without limitations. It's this combination of thoughtful hospitality and irresistible food that makes Shayda’s Turkish Cuisine more than just another restaurant-it’s a celebration of Turkish food done right.

Mixed Meze was amazing, down to the presentation. Waitress was always helpful and kind. So many small touches that made it a great stop - lemon slices in your drink, the bathrooms are pristine, the music being quiet but still creating a nice ambiance. 10/10, amazing restaurant. If I lived in this area, this would be my go-to food place.

I came here for my birthday lunch with my partner at the time which thankfully I walked away from.......... and I can honestly say that we will definitely be back!! From the initial greeting by the owner and his daughter....... Which by the way, his wife and son also work here......... We were made to feel very welcomed indeed! The daughter was really attentive and literally couldn't of looked after us any better than she did. We had starters and a main each and I'd like to say that I've not had better Turkish food anywhere else in the UK yet! The menu has all the favourites and a really nice selection of chefs specials! We're 100% going back one evening when I don't have my car and share a few drinks (especially my birthday drink guys)! What a great find with a great family....... A real credit to yourselves and brilliant addition to Folkestone you are!! See you soon!

I attended a birthday party here for my Grandson. We began with a lamb platter starter with Turkish bread. Very nice. Our mains was a large platter with lamb chops, ribs, kebabs, chicken wings, rice etc. It was absolutely delicious, I don't normally try foreign cuisines, but I have to say I really enjoyed this meal and the family event of course.

This restaurant caught us by surprise. Cooked to perfection, and the service was top notch. Dishes are prepared to exceed your expectation! We went for lunch by chance and was blown away by the taste that we had to book for dinner on the same day to try different menu, which were also great. I think we will visit folkestone just for the sake of their food and their hospitality. Sad I cannot give 10 stars.
